Hazards & Control Measures Covered:
1️⃣ Delivery of Materials
Unauthorised Entry to Work Site – Temporary Traffic Management (TTM) must be implemented to control vehicle movements and pedestrian access.
Collisions Between Employees & Vehicles – A spotter must guide the truck while it moves through the site.
Injury During Unloading – Work areas must be kept free from building rubble and materials to ensure safe unloading.
Mud & Debris on Roads – Wheels of delivery vehicles must be washed before leaving the site, and any debris must be cleared immediately.
2️⃣ Cutting Pavers (Brick Saw Use)
Electrocution – Electrical testing and tagging must be completed before machinery is brought to the site. Earth leakage protection is required for all electrical equipment.
Personal Injury from Operational Parts – Brick saws must be in good working order, unplugged before washing down, and only used for their intended purpose.
Entanglement Risks – Loose clothing and hair must be secured before operating the saw.
Contamination & Environmental Impact – Water circulation and containment systems must be operational. Bulk sediment must be removed and disposed of in a waste bin. Filter fabric must be used around sumps or water drainage points when washing down the saw.
3️⃣ Installation of Pavers
Manual Handling Injuries – Safe lifting techniques must be used, and workers must take regular breaks from repetitive and strenuous activities.
Crush Injuries – Hands and fingers must be kept clear of pinch points when positioning pavers.
Slips, Trips & Falls – Work areas must be kept clear of building rubble and loose materials.
Sunburn & Heat Exposure – Hard hats with wide brims must be worn, sunscreen must be applied, and hydration must be maintained.
4️⃣ General Site Hazards & Risk Reassessment
Changing Environmental Conditions – Work must cease immediately if conditions change and new hazards emerge. Supervisors must reassess risks before work resumes.
Communication of Updated SWMS – Any changes to the SWMS must be reviewed and approved by the supervisor before work recommences. All employees must be informed of the changes.
5️⃣ Emergency Preparedness & Incident Response
First Aid for Injuries – Injured workers must report to the nearest first aider for assistance.
Incident Reporting & Work Cessation – All incidents, including accidents and near-misses, must be reported immediately. Work must stop until risks are reassessed.
Major Accidents & Emergency Procedures – If a major incident occurs (e.g., a load dropping), work must stop, the area must be barricaded, and emergency services must be contacted.
